Swim. Bike. Run.
"... at this Summers SUSO Open Water Triathlon ...for fun or for glory!"
Triathlon is one of the fastest growing sports worldwide and here in the UK we have some incredible talent coming through the junior ranks. The Brownlee brothers (among others) are currently flying the flag for GB on the world stage, and for those that might have missed it, Alistair beat the best in the world (again) at the weekend in Madrid! The boy got wings on his feet and webs on his hands!
Clearly here at SUSO we are big fans of triathlon and are thus 'muy' excited to be sponsoring this years SUSO Open Water Triathlon as a way to support development of emerging talent within the sport. This alongside event partners Human Race and the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust.
Beyond the elite we are also 'made up' to have the opportunity to inspire first timers to participate and take on the significant challenge of completing a triathlon (go on you know you want to!). This is in truth is even more motivating to us at SUSO as we look to those prepared to apply that No Can’t Do attitude we so admire.
The event takes place at the Dorney Lake, Eton (a leading venue for senior and elite triathlon events) so you get the opportunity to feel what it is like to compete on a grand stage. Dorney Lake is also the venue for the Rowing and Kayak events in the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.
Racing is split into the following age groups and categories:
13 - 17 years High Performance Drafting Triathlon: 400m Swim, 10km Bike, 2.5km Run
13 - 17 years Fun Triathlon: 400m Swim, 10km Bike, 2.5km Run
11 & 12 years Fun Triathlon: 200m Swim, 5km Bike, 2km Run
8, 9 & 10 years Fun Triathlon: 100m Swim, 2km Bike, 1km Run
The biking and running are all on closed roads so there's no worry about traffic. You're a winner just for taking part (...really you are!) but if you fancy the thrill of competition over 500 have already signed up so the race is on!
Additionally any competitor fund-raising £20 or more in sponsorship for the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust goes into a draw to win a weekend away retreat for their entire family courtesy of Natural Retreats among other runners up prizes. Participants will find extra inspiration from the charity’s team of Olympians like Olympic bronze medalist Sarah Winckless and six times world champion Kayaker Anna Hemmings, who will be there on the day.
Full details to register are here.
In the meantime, look no further than the short clip below for a little tri-time inspiration ... the holy grail to aim for that is 'Iron Man'.
